Diagnosis and Treatment

If abnormal symptoms occur, a physician will typically perform a pelvic exam followed by an Endometrial Biopsy, where a small tissue sample is taken and analyzed. According to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, treatment pathways are highly individualized but generallyfeature surgery (like a hysterectomy), often followed by radiation, chemotherapy, or hormone therapy if the cancer has spread.

Common Symptoms

The disease often presents early, making timely detection possible. You should monitor for the following warning signs

Postmenopausal Bleeding

Any vaginal bleeding or spotting after menopause

Irregular Bleeding

Unusually heavy periods, bleeding between periods, or extremely prolonged menstruation.

Pelvic Pain

New or unusual pain, aching, or pressure in the pelvic area or lower abdomen

Risk Factors

  • Obesity

Excess fatty tissue can increase the body's estrogen levels, which is a leading contributor.

  • Hormone Imbalances

Conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or taking estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

  • Age

It most commonly develops in women who are over the age of 50 or who have already gone through menopause.

  • Genetics

Inherited genetic disorders such as Lynch Syndrome can increase a person's lifetime risk.
