Soft Tissue Tumor

What Are Soft Tissue Tumors?

Abnormal lumps or masses growing in tissues that connect, support, or surround other body structures.

  • Common Types: Lipomas (fat tumors), hemangiomas (blood vessel growths), and nerve sheath tumors.
  • Benign vs. Malignant: Non-cancerous tumors are far more common, usually small (under 5 cm), and grow slowly just under the skin.

Signs and Symptoms

Painless Lump

A soft or firm mass under the skin that you can often move with your fingers.

Growing Size

A lump that gets bigger over time, especially if it grows larger than 5 cm or feels deep under the muscle.

Aches or Pressure

Pain, numbness, or trouble moving a limb if the mass presses against a nerve or muscle.

Diagnosis and Treatment

  • Imaging Tests

Doctors use ultrasounds, MRIs, or CT scans to look at the size and depth of the mass.

  • Biopsy

A small tissue sample is taken and checked under a microscope to see if it is benign or a sarcoma.

  • Options

Benign lumps may only need regular watching or a simple removal surgery. Malignant tumors require specialized cancer care, including surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy
